Advertising handouts banned in Beijing

KrishMay 10 2006

In a bid to polish citizen behavior ahead of 2008 Olympics, China is taking strong measures on illegal roadside advertisements.

Heavy penalties will be imposed on people who distribute leaflets, put up posters on lamp posts and street walls. On repeating the offence one will be sentenced for up to two years of detention. What's more, the telecommunication authority will suspend the advertised phone numbers displayed on the posters or hand outs.

Unlicensed cab drivers and illegal vendors will also face similar punishments.
