Billboard advertisements have triggered a fierce debate in the U.S. considering safety implications. Billboard companies have started resorting to digital technology that rotates advertisements every six or eight seconds. Safety experts argue that the new digital billboards may work efficiently but it is of course a distraction for drivers. On the other hand, billboard industry maintains that these digital billboards are not dangerous for drivers.

The digital technology has encouraged both billboard companies and advertisers. Billboard companies using digital technology can generate three to five times more money and advertisers think that this technology is so effective that people will be compelled to pay attention.

There are 4000 digital billboards at present across the nation. However, Outdoor Advertising Association of America said that within 10 years one fifth of total, roughly 90,000 billboards will be converted.
