Face book, the ’social utility that connects you with people around you’ made some modifications to it’s systems. This was done in order to keep up with the user complains and to keep the folks in the network happy. The users of the social network site have been granted more privileges by the site administrator.

In other words, the site has completely overhauled the advertising system. The Face book changes granted users greater control over the site Beacon system, which I think is both good and bad. From now on the users need to give ultimate word if they want more information to be passed along to the face book associates.

The changes were made after about 50,000 Face book users signed an online petition complaining the ‘Beacon’ system. What this system used to do previously is pass on vital shopping information related to the Face book users. This kind of information even contained financial stuff that was much valued to the users. So the appeal was to change such system.

In order to keep all these users happy, Faces introduced a new system. Under the new system, the users will be able to opt out or opt in on the shopping information sharing. So, explicit user approval is required from the users in order to pass on the information. It’s a good thing that they introduced this opt in/out system.

I think that’s how the marketing system should be in all the social networking sites. Sites like Overstock.com need to comply with these changes if they want to keep doing business through Face book.
