

According to a report by eMarketer advertisers are likely to spend around $280 million to advertise on social networking sites in the U.S. in 2006. Further, report reveals MySpace will bite the largest chunk of the U.S. advertising revenue in the current year as it is speculated that it will generate around $180 million in the current year.

eMarketer further reports that by 2010 U.S. online social network ad expenditure will be touching around $1.9 billion. The recent speculation about MySpace ad revenue has drawn its parallel to the speculations made by the Wall Street analysts.
At world level, social network advertisement is likely to rise to $2.5 billion in the year 2010, which at present estimated around $350 billion for the year 2006. As of now, in U.S. social network ad spending stands for just 1.7 percent of the $16.7 billion total online ad spending in U.S. in the year 2006.
