Women's Aid: Someone needs to say ‘cut’

Sijo JosephApr 24 2009

This ad for of British non-profit group Women’s Aid created by Grey, London brings us to a film set. The camera pans out to show that the scene is occurring on a film set – but with no one else around. This two minute ad starring Keira Knightley is something which can be described as moving. This is indeed a creative way to portray the violence against women, and the need for help. Someone needs to say ‘cut’.

We can see Knightley act in the film, who is getting thrashed by the male actor. The attack is not in the script, but it happens and continues. The ad ends with Knightley helplessly asking to the crew and audience: “Isn’t it time someone called cut?”
