Northern Rock PLC has decided to withdraw its world cup based ad campaign, which was featuring England's star striker Michael Owen. The decision to withdraw the ad campaign has been taken in the wake of the withdrawal of Owen from the on-going world cup following a knee injury.

Northern Rock, the prominent sponsor of Newcastle United for which Owen plays, has said,
Out of sympathy to Michael, we felt it would be inappropriate to continue with that part of our campaign.
Northern Rock recently published the high profile advertisement featuring Owen in the leading newspapers having punch line, 'One of ours over there'.
