McDonald's: How to bribe a kid?

Sijo JosephMar 17 2009

Sometimes, child is the father (or, mother) of the (wo)man. Especially when they become adamant in getting what they want, you can’t just shrug off your kid’s will power. The McDonald's campaign by DDB South Africa shows three such incidents, in which the parent or the guardian is forced to ‘make a deal’.

Three situations. Three persons who fall into a ‘hostage like’ situation. A Mom with her child who is hell-bent on getting a spider. A granny with her grand child who is all set to move to the tempting Roller coaster. A dad with his son, and the junior wants to watch the movie.

Of course, these situations are carved out of creativity. The expressions of the characters are remarkable. But, when we see the ‘graphic hand’, which insists the Mom, Dad and the Granny to ‘make a deal’, we will feel it like a scratch in an amazing picture.

But, is bribing the child with McDonald’s a better idea? If he wants a spider or a moon, it’s ok. But, if the kid has reasonable ambitions like watching a movie or having a roller coaster ride, why should we discourage them? Instead, why should we bring them to McDonald’s? Some natural questions.
