
The acquisition of Gillette helped Procter & Gamble to become the largest advertisers in the U.S. for the year 2005. P&G has spent to the tune of $4.61 billion in 2005 while General Motors has spent $4.35 billion to grab the second post. However, it is the first time GM has passed the mark of 4 billion in the expenditure in this category.
The two top most advertisers nearly spent nine percent of the top 100 national advertisers spent. AdAge reports, in the year 2005 the total ad expenditure by the top 100 advertisers stood at $101.31 billion realizing a rise of just 1.3 percent from previous year.
